CHAPTER 34
Who We Are
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Sixteen women working in the construction industry founded it in 1953. The Indianapolis Chapter 34 was founded a few years later in 1960.
Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. Today, NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more.

Emily Mick began her career with Milestone Contractors in 2012 as a labor apprentice and has spent the past two years serving as a superintendent. She specializes in maintenance of traffic and erosion control and proudly represents the approximately 5% of women working in the skilled trades.
Emily’s dedication and leadership have earned her numerous honors. She received IndyNAWIC’s Shining Star Award in 2024 and Member of the Year Award in 2025. In 2025, she was also recognized by NAWIC’s North Central Region as Future Leader of the Year.
Emily has been an active leader within IndyNAWIC, serving as a Director from 2023–2025, Parliamentarian from 2025–2026, and returning to the Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 term.
Beyond her board service, Emily gives her time and passion to many IndyNAWIC committees and events, including WIC Week, Girls Construction Camp, and the Annual Golf Outing. She spearheads one of our most successful events of the year, the Annual Day at the Track event, and consistently advocates for our chapter, members, and programs.
IndyNAWIC is proud to have Emily as a member and a true representation of what it means to be a woman in construction. She is passionate about advocating for women, inspiring the next generation, and making a positive impact in both her community and our chapter.
Emily, thank you for your leadership, passion, and commitment to advancing women in construction. We are proud to have you as part of IndyNAWIC!
